FINALLY MAKING A BUCK? NOT US...
Nothing would make us happier than to make some green like Max at Arktimes.com, or like Kos or like Crooks and Liars. We'd love it. In fact, we expect some income during the upcoming election season, but we still don't know what makes these other "wonder-blogs" work. Perhaps its a more narrow approach to content, perhaps a non-political/non-scandal focused publication. However, Drudge does both. Does our hatred of browsers not-native-to Microsoft have something to do with it? C'mon now, you can pile on the abuse here! But, fellow bloggers, read below for encouraging news for independent media. We'd like to think we're the alt-weeklies of the new age...
More quickly than most anyone imagined, blogging is growing up. From the blogosphere's anarchistic roots, a professional cadre is emerging that is creating an industry whose top-performing businesses now earn serious money. The industry is expanding at warp speed. Blog-based media could just be poised to elbow aside traditional print and broadcast outlets to become one of the dominant sources of news, information and opinion, many observers believe.Would horoscopes and Zippy the Pinhead, or "Best of NWA" things improve the situation? How about "Best of D.C." -- we'd love to do that one, get out of Dodge for a couple of weeks.
"As traditional media continue to contract, this stuff is going to expand," said Steve King, senior fellow with the Society for New Communications Research, a Palo Alto think tank. "The business models have caught up and you're starting to see little blog publishing companies that frankly are becoming not so little."
