DUGGAR FAMILY UPDATE

UPDATE: October 13, 2005 -- if you've come here from the search engines, you need to go to the homepage at www.arkansastonight.com -- we have the official press release on the new baby's birth (scroll down, about mid-page), and we also have video from Discovery Health Channel of the birth itself (Newborn Duggar Vid .wmv file, about 5 minutes worth) and the family together -- again, just go to the current homepage for the video!

I include this, courtesy of AP in Little Rock, because I a) know the guy and b) have discovered that people who end up at this website are often searching for more information on the Duggar family. Enjoy.

TONTITOWN, Ark. (AP) - Another addition for Arkansas' best-known big family. Former state Representative Jim Bob Duggar and his wife Michelle say they're expecting their 16th child. The couple say they will have a baby girl in October. Baby girl Duggar will join her family in a new, seven-thousand-square-foot house. The Duggars say Number 16 might not be their last.

Funny stuff. We used a vo/sot on the Duggars last night.

Nice blog!
Goodness. Will there be anything left?
You can't deny the fact that the conservatives are building up their base while the liberals keep aborting their's (or at the very least, not keeping up the pace)

It IS kind of strange to have 16 kids in modern times, but that hasn't always been so. Less than 50 years ago, large families were the rule rather than the exception.

Oh that Jim Holt were the honest, sincere, and self sustaining man that Jim Bob Dugger is.

An therein lies Jim Holt's folly. He will compromise anything, even his principles, to step out of Mr. Duggar's shadow.

Mr Duggar possesses kindness, gentleness, and exercises the charity and mercy that demostrates a true Christian. Which is why he probably would have never sponsored SB 206. Not because he wouldn't have believed it to be "legalistically" correct, but because he actually understands what MERCY and GRACE means.

While Mr. Duggar is not running for office, I would ask you to lay off him. He already has enough of Jim Holt's daggers and leaches hanging off of him.

If Mr. Duggar runs for office, then you could ridicule his odd family, but you would never be able to accuse him of not practicing what he preaches.

For the time being, just leave him be. We could use a few more sincere and loving people in this world.
EDITOR -- I don't think anyone was giving Mr. Duggar a hard time in this post -- read it closely. I know Mr. Duggar, and he's never been anything but a gentleman, and yes, he has strong convictions. He also has been more than generous with the national media because of his family, of whom he is very proud. Discovery, CBS and others have done documentary stories and programs about his family. Why do you immediately take umbrage at news he'll have another child? Why can't he and his wife has as many as they want? I have no problem with that. It's not my choice, but his, and one he can fairly exercise in America. But remember, he's the one that would interfere with other people's reproductive rights, and as such can become a subject of criticism.

As for your comment about "building a base" -- I think it's over the top, and entirely untrue. I think you'll find abortion remains (mostly) legal, safe and rare in America, as President Clinton once said he hoped it would be. Have you ever run a study of abortions by political party? I don't think that's been scientifically done. It's far, far over the top, as is assuming anyone here made any fun of Mr. Duggar. A lot of people are looking for news about his family, and when we get it, we'll post it here -- in fact, we may call him, and do an interview so he can talk more about his life choices, and his politics.
Morally reprehensible... and nuts.

Craziness is purely evidenced with all the kids' names start with the letter J. There's something slightly off in that. This woman, without a doubt, does not function properly in the head. I don't know what it is, I'm not a doctor, I only play one on the web, but she certainly has some imbalance in her brain that has her leaning quite a distance from "normal."

These two people are also IMMENSELY SELFISH. Yeah, you can be a kind, gentle person and have problems with selfishness. You see, this world is way to over-populated. There is poverty here in America, children going to bed hungry. One nation south families live in such poverty that rats in America have nicer homes and better food to eat. You don't have to go that far away from downtown in cities like Tijuana and Nuevo Laredo to see it firsthand. I can personally take you to slums with dirt floors, tarps for roofs and walls made of loose wood crudely hammered together. In Africa children die every single minute of the day because they don't have what we Americas take for granted - simple medicines to prevent easily curable illnesses, clean water, and food. Children never have a chance to have a childhood.

How much money will it cost that Arkansas woman and her husband to raise all those 16 children until Age 18? On average a parent spends $250,000 on a child not including college. All that money spent on 16 children takes money out of the hands of THOUSANDS of children who could use it more.

Any couple who willingly decides they're not going to have even one child so that they can help other children instead is a couple that is a perfect example of how more people should be living their lives in the 21st Century. Want to truly be a charitable human being? Don't bring a child into the world. I am not advocating abortion, I am saying don't plan to conceive and follow through with having a child. More births = more problems for people and the land of Earth. For every one new child hundreds will die. Giving birth to 16 children? Just sad.
I'm happy for the Duggars that they had a healthy child and appear to be doing a great job raising their brood (without public assistance, God forbid that anything should ever happen to one or both of the parents in which case I hope they have some sort of insurance policy), but in a way, I find that having that many children in today's day and age kind of disturbing....I mean, are these people so narcissistic that they want to feel the need to continually procreate? In the old days, people needed children to run farms and contribute to the success and survival of the family. I know that they have Christian beliefs and I respect that, but what about charity and helping other children who are much less fortunate? I don't mean to sound catty here, but the mother seems a bit out of touch with reality...I mean just look at her appearance....I kind of feel bad for her...does she realize that perhaps she can make a larger contribution to society than being a full-time baby mill? Its almost like she and her husband crave the attention and shock value of having so many children. I'm sure they're great parents, but if you ask me, anything in excess can have great potential for disaster.
